Do You Wonder If You Should Build A List For Lead Generation?

By Steve Mills

Almost always, when it comes to lead generation, your best bet is to build a lead list online. This applies to you even if the kind of business you have can not be done, over the internet. You can almost always promote your business on the web. This is a huge mistake that millions of independent private companies are committing, day after day, and year after year.

Many proprietors feel that since they do not have the kind of business, where someone can visit a website and pull out their credit card and have something sent to them in the mail, etc., that there really is no reason to go to the bother of learning how to put up a website. And, they refuse to pay someone else, because no direct sales can be made to pay for it.

Consider, for example a dentist, an owner of a restaurant, and a dry cleaner. None of them can deliver their products to you by way of courier, so you are not going to buy anything from them on the internet. They might not understand the need for having a website, due to that reason. Yet surely, there are people where they do business, who are looking for what they offer, and who go online to get such information.

By having a website and optimizing it for the search terms people use when looking for those services in their city, they can easily attain some listings for first page results in the search engine. The prospect would then click on their link in Google or whatever search engine, and be taken to the website where they might be inspired to call or stop into the business.

Now that is better than what so many businesses are doing, which is nothing, online, but it is not enough. They would still be missing the most important reason for having a website: to build a list for lead generation purposes. Imagine if the prospect gets to the website and they see, prominently display, an offer of a report that can help solve a problem, or maybe an offer of a generous discount coupon, etc?

This is known as an ethical bribe, and it is classic lead generation through list building, in action. If the prospect wants to collect on the bribe, they must give up their email address and subscribe to the newsletter, which is going to keep providing more value, of some sort, every time it arrives in the prospect's inbox.

When you get someone to your website, that is a good first step, but it is only a first step. You need them to come back, again and again. Most purchases or purchasing decisions are not made on a first visit. If you do not capture your first time visitors email address, in the manner described above, you will not likely get them back to your site.

This is the same process, regardless of what kind of business you are in. Whether you are an MLM network marketer growing your downline, or an author of an Ebook about the globalist conspiracy toward a one world government, there are prospects on the internet who are seeking exactly you have to offer.

Now you know the components to list building lead generation: build a website using the same words that your prospects who are actively seeking your service or products use, when they go to search engines to find you. Then once they are on your site, you entice their email address from them. Your only decision is whether you will learn the specific skill sets required, or hire others to do it for you.
