The State Of Pharmacist Jobs Today

By A Noton

When people are sick they often require medicine and they often want it now. Pharmacist Jobs are some of the most important in the world in that persons in this field must possess much knowledge not only of individual medications, but of the interaction of various medicines as well. For those who are considering a Pharmacy career, the knowledge that one is helping others while earning a good salary makes the effort in schooling worth the time.

Many of the pharmacists of old throughout the world are now retiring. However, their jobs are not being filled as rapidly as was the previous trend. Part of this is due to the limited number of schools specializing in this field. Alternatively, a number of young people are choosing other avenues to pursue because of a lack of understanding of the intricacies and advantages associated with a pharmacy career.

Pharmacy Jobs require concentration and behind the counter work. As a result, very few get to know the people they are filling the prescriptions for. After awhile some find this rather tedious. According to a survey by the Pharmacy Manpower Project, Inc. Although many enjoy the work they wish they were also allowed to do drug counseling and administration of immunizations so that they could have more physical contact with people.

Medical Staffing Agencies throughout the world are having difficulties filling positions in the field. According to statistics, currently 46% of pharmacists are now female and prefer part-time positions. In the over 55 group, 10% are females and 40% are males. Part-time positions allow more free time to pursue other interests such as traveling.

Many pharmacies are now located in supermarkets, independent businesses, hospitals and other places. The pharmacists in these positions usually earn more money and work less hours. These are attractive positions in that these professionals can more or less choose their own hours and work days.

Despite the declining numbers of Pharmacists, the prescription market is on the rise. This has been compensated for in many locations with the addition of non-pharmacist jobs whose primary responsibility it is to see to the needs of their clients. They take in prescription scripts, check authorizations, contact doctors when needed, run the cash register, and have many other duties that provide the Pharmacist with the time needed to actually fill the prescriptions and counsel patients.

With the advancement of technology in this area of medicine there have been many changes that have quickened the pace for pharmacists and customers alike. Equipment that automatically counts the pills for a prescription, automatic telephone re-fill requests, computers that relay a doctor's prescription immediately, and many other modern innovations have brought about a large number of changes in the industry.

The salary for those who are employed in Pharmacist Jobs is very good and has, in fact, increased 38% annually over the past decade. A career in this field can be very profitable as well as, according to a survey, have a very high job satisfaction. This is one area of the economy where finding employment is not an issue. Many are finding a pharmacy career is a very good choice.
